Cement exports rise in the year 2024-25, but Local demand remains weak
The All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) has released data showing a mixed trend in the cement industry during the financial year 2024-25. While cement exports saw a strong increase, local demand remained low.
According to APCMA, domestic cement sales dropped from 38.181 million tons last year to 37.017 million tons in FY2024-25, showing a decline in local demand across the country.
In contrast, cement exports increased significantly. The industry recorded a 29.46% growth in export volumes, rising from 7.110 million tons in the previous year to 9.204 million tons in 2024-25.
The total cement dispatches (local + export) for the financial year reached 46.221 million tons, slightly up from 45.291 million tons last year.
June 2025 Performance:
In June 2025, local cement sales were 2.597 million tons, compared to 3.079 million tons in June 2024, showing a drop in local deliveries. However, exports in June 2025 saw a major jump of 81.70%, increasing from 472,865 tons to 859,204 tons.
The total cement dispatches in June 2025 stood at 3.457 million tons, slightly lower than 3.552 million tons in June 2024, reflecting a 2.69% overall decline.
The APCMA highlighted that the drop in local demand remains a major hurdle for the growth of the cement industry in Pakistan. They urged supportive economic and construction policies to boost domestic consumption.
