 Aurangzeb departs for US to attend IMF, WB annual meetings


ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, has departed for the United States to attend the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group.

During his visit, the finance minister will represent Pakistan at the plenary sessions of both the IMF and World Bank.

Senator Aurangzeb is scheduled to hold meetings with senior officials of the IMF, World Bank, International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).

He will also meet World Bank President Ajay Banga in a one-on-one meeting and attend a special dinner hosted by Mr. Banga for finance ministers of selected countries.

The finance minister is also expected to meet IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva on the sidelines of the G24 and MENA-Pakistan platform sessions.

He will deliver a keynote address at the Middle East, North Africa, and Pakistan (MENAP) Forum, and attend a regional roundtable on FBR’s digital transformation organized by the World Bank. The roundtable will feature tax officials from Pakistan’s FBR and other countries sharing their reform initiatives.

Minister Aurangzeb will also participate in two high-level events organized by the World Economic Forum (WEF).

During the visit, he will hold bilateral meetings with finance ministers and senior leaders from China, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Azerbaijan.

His itinerary also includes meetings with senior White House officials, the Chairman of the U.S. Congress Financial Services Committee, and senior representatives from the U.S. Departments of State and Treasury as well as the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC).

Additionally, the finance minister will engage with the U.S.-Pakistan Business Council to discuss tax proposals and investment opportunities in Pakistan.

He is also scheduled to meet officials of global credit rating agencies, commercial banks, and Middle Eastern investment banks to discuss Pakistan’s economic outlook and investment prospects.

The Finance Minister will clarify the country’s economic scenario while addressing various investment forums and seminars.

The Finance Minister will visit the United States’s leading think tanks, including the Atlantic Council and the Patterson Institute of International Economics

Mohammad Aurangzeb will also meet leading members of the Pakistani community. Finance Minister will also give interviews to elected international and US media representatives.

 

The Finance Minister will attend more than 65 events, forums, events, meetings and meetings during his six -day visit.
