KU offers job to sister of student killed by campus bus – HUM News

KARACHI: The University of Karachi (KU) Syndicate has approved a Grade-16 job for the sister of a student who was killed by a campus shuttle bus on October 10.

According to a university spokesperson, the appointment was made in line with the family’s request.

KU Vice-Chancellor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi said the deceased student, enrolled in the Department of Social Work, had tragically lost her life last week after being hit by a university bus.

He said that the university had offered financial assistance to the bereaved family, but they expressed a preference for employment for the victim’s sister instead.

“Respecting the family’s wish, the Syndicate approved her appointment,” Dr Iraqi stated.

Earlier, police said the student was killed after being hit by a campus bus near the Mehmood-ul-Hassan Library.

Traffic police inspector Akmal Rai identified the victim as Aniqa, a second-year student of the social work department. According to police, she had gotten off one bus and was attempting to cross the road when another bus tried to overtake and hit her.

The student was run over by the bus and died on the spot, leading to protests by students inside the campus.

A university notification issued on October 10 said that an inquiry committee had been constituted to investigate the incident.
