During an extraordinary meeting on law and order chaired by the chief minister, the provincial government unveiled a multi-pronged strategy targeting hate speech, terrorism, illegal immigration, and unlicensed weapon ownership.
CRACKDOWN ON TLP
The Punjab government also announced that it would recommend the banning of the ‘prominent extremist party’ Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) to the federal government. Individuals involved in hate speech, incitement to violence, and attacks on law enforcement will be arrested immediately, and cases will be pursued under anti-terrorism laws.
The leadership of TLP is also to be included in the Fourth Schedule of the Anti-Terrorism Act, effectively placing them under strict surveillance. All of the party’s properties and assets will be transferred to the Auqaf Department, and a complete ban will be placed on its posters, banners, and advertisements. Additionally, the party’s bank accounts will be frozen, and its social media platforms spreading hatred will be shut down.
CRIMINAL PROSECUTION OF RIOTERS, ILLEGAL WEAPON OWNERSHIP
In a strong message to agitators, the provincial government has also announced that all those involved in the martyrdom of police officers and destruction of public property will be tried in anti-terrorism courts. This includes both leaders and workers of the extremist group.
The Punjab government has ordered an immediate crackdown on illegal weapons. All owners of such arms have been given a one-month ultimatum to surrender their weapons to authorities. Citizens with legal firearms must register them at the nearest Khidmat Markaz within the same period.
The issuance of new arms licenses has been completely banned, and arms dealers are now required to submit their stocks for inspection. The government has also recommended to the federal government to regularize arms factories and manufacturers.
The punishment for possession of illegal weapons has been increased to 14 years in prison along with a fine of up to Rs 2 million. The offense has been made non-bailable as well.
LOUDSPEAKER ACT ENFORCEMENT
Strict enforcement of the Loudspeaker Act has also been ordered, with a warning of action against any violations, particularly those used to spread sectarian or extremist messages.

CM Maryam Nawaz said that these measures are being done to enforce the writ of the state and ensure the safety and security of all citizens. “This is a defining moment for Punjab. We are establishing the rule of law and sending a clear message: extremism, violence, and illegal activities will not be tolerated,” she said.
