WEB DESK: Security officials on Wednesday dismissed Afghan Taliban claims circulating on social media that they had captured Pakistani weapons during recent cross-border clashes, calling the videos “fabricated and baseless.”

The statement came after a series of attacks by Afghan Taliban fighters near Spin Boldak, close to Chaman, which prompted a strong counteroffensive by the Pakistan Army. According to security sources, Pakistani forces responded with mortar and tank fire, destroying multiple Taliban posts and inflicting heavy casualties. It was told that several Taliban tanks and their crews were also targeted in the operation. Following the strikes, the Taliban reportedly requested a ceasefire.

Officials said that Pakistan’s response to the aggression had been “effective and decisive,” stressing that all false propaganda by the Taliban was aimed at distorting the ground reality.

“The Pakistan Army is fully prepared to respond decisively to any external aggression,” the sources emphasised, reaffirming the military’s resolve to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Earlier the ISPR said Pakistani forces responded swiftly to the attack near Chaman, killing 15 to 20 attackers and injuring several others, while the militants destroyed the Pak-Afghan Friendship Gate during the assault. The attacks, launched from villages near the border, showed no regard for civilian lives or property.

Security officials confirmed that a similar attack in the Kurram sector was also foiled, with Pakistani troops destroying eight Taliban posts and six tanks. The military said the militants suffered heavy losses, including the seizure of U.S.-made weapons.
