The government also dug trenches and set up barricades to prevent the TLP from advancing toward the capital. The group had launched its protest march from Lahore on Friday, aiming to demonstrate outside the US Embassy in Islamabad in support of Gaza and Palestine.

Police confirmed the operation to disperse the protesters began in the pre-dawn hours and was met with fierce resistance. Punjab Police spokesperson Mubashir Hussain later confirmed the death of a Station House Officer (SHO), Shehzad Nawaz, during an exchange of gunfire in Sheikhupura district, where Muridke is located. Three TLP members were also reported killed, and a passerby lost his life in the violence.

At least 48 law enforcement officers were injured, 17 with gunshot wounds, according to official figures. Eight civilians were also hurt, as per the figures reported by Dawn News.

Authorities accused TLP protesters of launching violent attacks using stones, spiked clubs, and petrol bombs, and eventually opening fire. The police said they responded with “limited action” in self-defence. Dozens of arrests were made, and the protesters allegedly set fire to 40 vehicles.

In response to the violence, roadblocks were reinstated across key areas, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Lahore. While Faizabad Interchange had been temporarily cleared, most access routes were quickly closed again by mid-morning due to renewed security concerns.

Internet connectivity was reportedly affected in parts of Rawalpindi, though service in Islamabad remained mostly functional.
