ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Sparco) has announced that the first supermoon of the year will be visible across the country on October 7, 2025. According to a Sparco spokesperson, the supermoon will rise from the eastern horizon shortly after sunset at 8:47 PM local time. It will be visible throughout the night and will set in the west just before dawn, offering ample time for enthusiasts to witness the event.
Astronomical experts have confirmed that the October supermoon will be approximately 6.6 per cent larger and 13 per cent brighter than the regular moon. The event is expected to be particularly striking for viewers in open spaces where the sky is clear.
“This is an extraordinary opportunity for all Pakistanis to witness the moon in its full glory,” the spokesperson said, encouraging the public to step outside and enjoy the rare phenomenon.
Sparco also highlighted that 2025 will see a total of three supermoons, with the second occurring on November 5 and the third on December 5. Experts predict that the November supermoon will be the brightest of the year.
A supermoon occurs when the moon reaches its closest point to Earth in its orbit, causing it to appear unusually large and luminous. The event provides a unique chance for skywatchers to enjoy a mesmerising view of our natural satellite.
