Security forces eliminate 31 Khawarij in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Last week on September 24, security forces eliminated 13 terrorists during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Dera Ismail Khan, the military’s media wing said on Wednesday. According to ISPR, the militants belonged to Fitna al-Khawarij, an Indian-sponsored proxy group, and were engaged in targeted killings, suicide bombings and abductions.
Acting on intelligence, troops raided the Daraban area where the militants were hiding. A heavy exchange of fire ensued, ending with all 13 terrorists killed. Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the site. The ISPR noted that the group had facilitated a December 2023 suicide bombing in Daraban and was responsible for killing government officials and civilians. A sanitisation operation is underway to ensure no militants remain in the area.
The military reiterated its resolve to eradicate terrorism from Pakistan, stressing that groups such as TTP and allied outfits would now be formally referred to as Khawarij.
The operation coincided with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar’s warning at the OIC Contact Group on Afghanistan. He expressed deep concern over the presence of more than two dozen terrorist groups operating from Afghan soil, including TTP, BLA, Majeed Brigade and ETIM, describing them as a grave threat to regional and international peace and security.
