Four killed, two injured in mortar shell explosion in Bajaur – HUM News


BAJAUR: At least four people were killed and two others injured after an old mortar shell exploded in fields in the Laghari area of Loi Mamund tehsil of Bajaur district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday.

According to police, the shell had been lying in the fields when a group of youngsters came across it and began playing with it. The device went off, leaving four dead and two injured.

DSP Niaz Khan said that the bodies and the injured were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital. He said that police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation after the incident.

The deceased were identified as Sajjad, 18, Naushad, 13, Fawad, 18, and Jawad, 15.

On August 2, at least five children were killed and 12 others injured after a mortar shell exploded in the Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The incident took place in the jurisdiction of Lakki Marwat’s Saddar Police Station, where children found a mortar shell outside their house and brought it home.

The explosion occurred while the children were playing with it.

Government officials said that immediately after the explosion, all 17 injured were shifted to the nearby city hospital via ambulances, where five injured children were pronounced dead.

The deceased children were reportedly between six and 12 years of age.
