Another newsworthy handshake: Trump and Musk unite at Kirk’s memorial – HUM News

GLENDALE: President Donald Trump and tech magnate Elon Musk were seen shaking hands at the memorial service for slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk, a moment that drew murmurs from attendees and sparked renewed speculation about their political alignment heading into 2026.

The two high-profile figures met briefly during the service, held at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, which drew thousands of mourners, many dressed in red, white, and blue, to honor Kirk’s legacy. The venue, with a capacity of over 63,000, was filled with tributes to the late activist, including easels adorned with photographs and Christian rock music echoing from loudspeakers.

Musk had previously chaired Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (nicknamed “DOGE”) – an initiative launched in early 2025 to drastically reduce federal spending and streamline bureaucracy. However, Musk stepped back from the role in late May, citing differences in implementation and a desire to focus on his ventures in artificial intelligence and space exploration.

Their handshake at the memorial marks a rare public appearance together since Musk distanced himself from the Trump administration’s inner circle earlier this year. While the two have had a turbulent relationship, alternating between praise and public disagreement. However, their shared interest in deregulation, technological advancement, and conservative populism has kept lines of communication open.

Trump, called Kirk “a patriot” and a warrior for America’s youth. Musk arrived separately. Observers noted that the handshake was brief but cordial.

Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA and a prominent figure in conservative youth politics, was killed last week in what authorities are still investigating as a politically motivated shooting. His death has sent shockwaves through right-wing circles, prompting tributes from across the conservative spectrum.

Whether the handshake signals a rekindled political alliance or simply a moment of mutual respect remains unclear, but any gesture between two of the most influential voices on the American right is bound to draw attention.
