Karachi floods: Korangi Causeway to remain closed for traffic – HUM News

KARACHI: The Korangi Causeway, which suffered serious damage during the recent floods in Karachi, will remain closed for all types of traffic till further notice, officials confirmed on Friday.

After the spell of torrential rains in Karachi, traffic conditions across the city have turned difficult. Though the water level in the Malir River has receded, the road surface of the causeway was badly affected by the flooding and is still unsafe for vehicles.

According to traffic police, cracks and broken patches appeared at multiple points of the road, forcing authorities to seal it for commuters’ safety.

Traffic police officials said the causeway will only be reopened once repair and restoration work is completed.

“We cannot allow movement on a road that is unsafe. Vehicles may get stuck or accidents can occur,” a spokesperson said.

Due to the closure, traffic pressure has shifted to Jam Sadiq Bridge, which is now facing long queues during peak hours.

Commuters travelling between Korangi, Landhi, and the main city areas are facing delays and have been advised to plan their travel accordingly.

Police have diverted vehicles to alternative routes, but congestion remains high as thousands of vehicles are now forced to use limited passages.
