CM Maryam to visit Sialkot; flights remain suspended as flood destruction continues – HUM News


SIALKOT: All flight operations at Sialkot International Airport continue to remain suspended due to flooding. According to airport spokesperson Muhammad Umair Khan, flood water entered the airport from the southern side, prompting the closure of air operations yesterday. The suspension remains in effect today as well.

Efforts to drain flood water are ongoing, with all airport personnel engaged in the operation. Dewatering pumps and machinery have been deployed to clear the affected areas. Umair Khan said that all equipment at the airport remains safe, and most of the central parts, including the runway and parking lot, have not been significantly affected.

The wider Sialkot region continues to face flood-related challenges for the fourth consecutive day. All government and private schools have been closed in response to the situation.

Rescue 1122 has reported 15 fatalities related to the flooding and confirmed the evacuation of 1,257 residents from affected areas to safer locations. Several urban and rural localities have experienced severe impacts from overflowing water bodies, including Nala Palkhu, Nala Aik, and Nala Bhed.

Urban areas such as Askari Colony, Cantt Avenue, Khadim Ali Road, and Sadar Bazar have reported flooding, along with rural zones like Chaprad, Saidpur, Koja Chak, and Bajwat. In Sambrial, floodwaters have reached Chani Gondal, Khasa, and adjacent villages, while landslides in Pasrur Tehsil have affected multiple communities, including Chahor and Sukanwind.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is expected to visit Sialkot to assess the situation today. She will also receive a briefing at the D-Office and is expected to issue directives for the ongoing rescue and relief efforts.
