ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across various regions of the country from today until September 2, warning of potential urban flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas.
Punjab, which is already bracing floods will witness heavy showers the eastern districts, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, and Gujranwala. The PMD cautioned that low-lying areas in central and southern Punjab may experience water accumulation due to persistent rain.
Reeling from the aftermath of recent flooding, rainfall is also likely in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly in Chitral, Swat, Buner, Abbottabad, Peshawar, and Nowshera. The Malakand and Hazara divisions face a risk of landslides as a result of the expected downpours.
In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, areas such as Muzaffarabad, Bagh, Haveli, Kotli, and Mirpur are also expected to receive rainfall in the coming days. Similarly, several parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, including Skardu, Hunza, Diamer, Astore, Ghizer, and Ghanche, have been forecast to witness rain, raising concerns of landslides and potential glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs).

In Sindh, Karachi, Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, and Tharparkar are likely to receive rainfall between August 30 and September 2. The PMD has warned of possible urban flooding in Karachi due to anticipated heavy showers. Rain is also expected in Hyderabad, Dadu, Sukkur, Ghotki, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Kashmore.
In Balochistan, a fresh spell of rain is expected to begin on August 30, affecting districts including Gwadar, Kech, Panjgur, Lasbela, and Kalat. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued alerts to local departments, urging preparedness, especially in mountainous areas where landslides remain a risk.
Authorities have been advised to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures to avoid any untoward incidents.
