Fear grips Buner as residents hesitate to return to flood-hit homes
Now, with schools in hilly districts reopened on schedule, the provincial authorities have decided to suspend classes again as a precautionary step amid warnings of cloudbursts and flooding in these areas.
The recent spell of heavy rains and flash floods has severely impacted the education sector in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with official figures confirming that 61 government schools have been completely destroyed and 414 others damaged in various districts.
Among the schools reduced to rubble are 52 primary, seven middle, and two high schools. Lower Dir has suffered the heaviest losses, where 17 primary schools have been demolished. Shangla follows with eight schools destroyed. In Haripur, seven school buildings collapsed, including five primary, one middle, and one high school.
Authorities caution that the tally of damaged and destroyed schools may increase as more assessment reports are received from affected areas.
