Rain and roadblocks: Monsoon rains to strike Pakistan – HUM News


ISLAMABAD: Residents across the country should be on high alert as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicted heavy rains throughout Wednesday, raising the risk of flash floods, urban flooding and landslides across several cities.

Officials warn that local water inlets in Dir, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, and Murree will witness significant increase in water.

Urban centres including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore and Sialkot could experience urban flooding due to intense rainfall.

The mountainous and hilly regions up north – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and northern Punjab – face threats of landslides and mudslides. This may leas to road closures and travel disruptions.

Authorities cautioned the public to avoid unnecessary travel and take all necessary safety measures.

Wednesday’s weather pattern presents a mix of extremes. While heavy showers are expected across northern Pakistan, rest of the country will endure hot and very humid conditions.

Temperatures as will vary widely. Nokkundi in the south is expected to sizzle at 44 degrees Celsius, while other southern cities in Punjab and Sindh will grapple with heat and humidity.

Islamabad weather

Humidity is expected to max out at 68 per cent, with the capital experiencing a maximum temperature of 34 degrees Celsius.

Weather in Balochistan

Balochistan is expected to experience extremely dry weather, with extremely low humidity. Sibbi and Jiwani will experience hot weather with highs ranging from 31 degrees Celsius to 43 degrees Celsius.

Sindh weather

Similar to Balochistan, Sindh is expected to experience dry and hot weather, with Mithi and Dadu expected to simmer.

Weather in Punjab

While northern Punjab, including Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad and surrounding regions dealing with heavy rains and humidity, southern Punjab will see hot and dry weather.
