KARACHI: Renowned Television and Theatre actress and model Humaira Asghar was found dead in a flat in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA), police said on Tuesday.
Her decomposed body was discovered unexpectedly from an apartment in Ittehad Commercial area of DHA Phase VI when the Gizri police had arrived there on the orders of a local court to vacate the premises.
“When police knocked on the door around 3:15pm and received no response, they broke the lock and found the actress dead inside,” DIG South Zone Syed Asad Raza told media.
The actress was reportedly living in the flat on rent. Police say investigations are ongoing to ascertain the circumstances of her death.
Local police further said that after discovering Humaira’s body, they called crime scene investigators to collect evidence, while the body was moved to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities.
Police believe the body had been lying in the apartment for several days as it had decomposed.
Preliminary findings by the Gizri police also suggest the body may be around 15 days old.
Meanwhile, Dawn reported that Police surgeon Dr Samia Syed confirmed that the body was brought in a decomposed state, complicating efforts to determine the exact cause of death. A postmortem examination is expected to offer more clarity.
Humaira Asghar, daughter of Asghar Ali, was just 32 years old. She had worked in several television dramas, including Ehsan Faramosh and Guru.
The deceased actress was active on social media. However, she last posted on Instagram 42 weeks ago, sharing delight for receiving National Woman Leadership Award.
Before that, she had posted a reel to her official Facebook page on May 17, lifting weight in a a gym with her mates. “…I’m addicted to becoming the absolute greatest version of myself…”, she captioned the video.
