Miandad’s iconic six ruined Aamir Khan’s wedding day

Miandad’s iconic six ruined Aamir Khan’s wedding day

Mumbai: Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan recently opened up about a humorous yet poignant memory from his youth how a cricketing moment unexpectedly marred his wedding day.

Aamir revealed on a Indian digital media plateform that he and Reena secretly tied the knot when he was just 21, amid family opposition. Their clandestine wedding was a quiet affair, kept under wraps until they returned home. That evening, as they settled in, they noticed everyone glued to the television caught up in a crucial cricket match between India and Pakistan in Sharjah.

Unbeknownst to them, the match was heading into its dramatic final moments. Aamir fondly recalled how India was poised for victory, and he was overjoyed, imagining his wedding day would be celebrated with India’s triumph.

But then, history was made. Javed Miandad, Pakistan’s batting maestro, faced the last ball needing six runs to win. With the crowd holding its breath, Miandad smashed the ball for a six, sealing Pakistan’s victory in one of cricket’s most unforgettable moments.

Aamir shared that he was deeply upset afterward and even mentioned this to Javed Miandad during a meeting in flight.

He jokingly told him, “Javed Bhai, you didn’t do right to me!” Miandad, surprised, asked what he meant, Aamir replied, “You ruined my wedding because you hit that six on the last ball and I was terribly disappointed.”

This iconic finish on April 10, 1986, in Sharjah remains etched in cricket history, but for Aamir Khan, it’s a humorous reminder of how even the most joyous days can be unexpectedly overshadowed by a legendary six.
