ISLAMABAD: The federal government has refrained from potentially intervening in the US court proceedings on Dr Aafia Siddiqui’s case.
The development came during a hearing at the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on a petition pertaining to the health and repatriation of Dr Aafia.
During the hearing, Additional Attorney General briefed the court about the government’s decision.
Upon this, Justice Ejaz Ishaq asked on what basis the government decided not to become party in her case. Such a move cannot be made without proper reasoning, he remarked.

“This is a constitutional court. No one can simply come and say that a decision has been made without providing the rationale behind it,” Justice Ishaq said, while reminding the attorney general that neither he nor the government could make this decision without proper reasoning.
With these remarks, he adjourned the hearing till July 4 and directed the government to present their reasons for not becoming a party in the Dr Aafia Siddiqui’s case in the next hearing.
