LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has reserved its verdict on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s bail petitions in eight cases related to the May 9 violence, which will be announced tomorrow (Tuesday).
Imran Khan has been seeking bail in multiple cases stemming from the nationwide protests and violent incidents that erupted on May 9, 2023, following his arrest. The cases include charges of incitement, damage to public property, and disturbing the peace.

A two-member bench, headed by Justice Shehbaz Ali Rizvi, heard arguments on Monday from both sides in connection with the post-arrest bail pleas filed by the former prime minister. The cases pertain to incidents of arson and vandalism, including attacks on Jinnah House and Askari Tower.
During the proceedings, Imran Khan’s counsel, Barrister Salman Safdar, argued that the cases were politically motivated and pointed out that the PTI founder was in the custody of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) when the riots took place.

“He had no knowledge of the events happening outside,” the lawyer said, adding that his client condemned the violence and should be granted bail.
The prosecution opposed the bail petitions and urged the court to dismiss them.
After hearing arguments from all sides, the court reserved its judgement.
Meanwhile, the counsel for PTI leader Mehmoodur Rasheed requested the permit the withdrawal of his client’s bail plea. The court also decided that Ejaz Chaudhry’s bail petitions would be heard separately.
It may be noted that while the LHC was hearing Imran Khan’s bail pleas, rumours went viral on social media that the court has already granted bail to the PTI chief in all May 9 cases.

However, Imran Khan’s lawyer Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry immediately denied reports that bail has already been granted. “There is no truth to the reports about Imran Khan being granted bail,” he wrote on X.
