Doctors’ strike disrupts emergency services at Jinnah Hospital Karachi – HUM News

KARACHI: Emergency services have been suspended after a doctor was allegedly assaulted by angry attendants at Jinnah Hospital Karachi.

As per reports, a serious incident unfolded at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Karachi’s largest public hospital, Jinnah Hospital, where attendants allegedly assaulted a doctor.

The doctors from the medical department, in protest, have suspended work, severely affecting emergency services.

The incident occurred when 17-year-old Nisar Ali, suffering from a respiratory illness, was brought to the hospital. The family claims that doctors refused to admit him to the ICU, causing his condition to deteriorate. Nisar Ali passed away shortly after.

Following his death, the attendants staged a protest with the body. They accused the doctors not only of denying a bed but also of mistreating them. During the protest, 10 to 15 individuals forcibly entered the ICU, dragged Dr. Shiva Ram outside, and assaulted him.

Dr. Shiva Ram stated that the ICU had only nine beds, all of which were occupied at the time. Therefore, the patient was advised to be shifted to another ward.

In response to the incident, the hospital’s medicine department doctors went on strike, causing immense difficulties for patients arriving at the emergency department.

Citizens’ CNICs will soon serve as their medical record IDs

According to Senior Medical Officer Dr. Waqar, emergency care is initially handled by medicine doctors, and their absence can create a critical situation.

On the other hand, the family of the deceased alleged that negligence and inhumane behavior by the doctors led to Nisar Ali’s death. They have submitted an application at the local police station, demanding that a murder case be filed against the doctor involved.

The hospital administration has launched an investigation, and the police are using CCTV footage to identify the attackers.

The administration has also announced stricter security measures to ensure the safety of both patients and staff.
