Appointment of NEECA chief challenged in IHC – HUM News


ISLAMABAD: The appointment of the managing director (MD) of National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (NEECA) – a subsidiary of the Ministry of Energy, has been challenged in the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

The IHC has issued notice to parties on petition against appointment of NEECA MD. The court has sought responses from the appointed managing director, Dr Sardar Moazzam, and other parties concerned, by April 18.

IHC Justice Inaam Ameen Minhas heard petition of NEECA employees. The employees are challenging appointment of Dr Moazzam, contending that he was appointed in 2019 with no relevant experience for the post at all. The petitioners’ lawyer said that the appointment was made despite the requirement of 10 years of energy project experience, as per the Act.

The petitioners content that the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) granted the appointee a three-year extension under a summary which was against MP1 policy.

The petition also highlights that at the time of Dr Moazzam’s appointment as the NEECA MD, he had a personal company called Prudence Consulting, registered in the Islamabad Capital Territory.

The court issued notices to the parties and adjourned the hearing till April 18.
