ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Talha Waheed has aced his way into the Guinness World Records, smashing the record for most tennis serves in a minute, local media reported on Wednesday.

Waheed eclipsed American John Perry’s mark of 42 successful serves in a November attempt that was ratified this week.

Pakistan Tennis Federation President Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi hailed the 47-year-old’s achievement as a major inspiration for young players. “This is exactly the boost Pakistani tennis needs,” he said.

Guinness World Records, originally known as The Guinness Book of Records, is an internationally recognised reference established in 1955 after an argument about which was the fastest game bird in Europe.

Today, Guinness World Records serves as the global authority on record-breaking, celebrating remarkable and often bizarre achievements.

In August 2024, a Pakistani father and son aced their way into Guinness World Records. Five-year-old martial artist from Waziristan, Sufiyan Mehsud, achieved a Guinness World Record, surpassing a previous mark held by an Indian boy.

Sufiyan Mehsud bested the record for the “Fastest Time to Climb Around a Person,” which was previously set by MV Arjun Priyan of India at 9.78 seconds.

Sufiyan accomplished the climb in just 7.87 seconds.

The “Koala Challenge,” as it is commonly known, gained significant attention during the covid-19 pandemic. The challenge requires participants to climb around a person with high speed and agility.

Sufiyan’s new record makes him the youngest person from Pakistan to hold a Guinness World Record.

Similarly, his father, Irfan Mehsud, set two new Guinness World Records, surpassing previous records held by Italy’s Marcelo Ferri.

The marital artist broke Ferri’s record for lifting an 18-kilogram (kg) weight with his toe, previously held for 1 minute 32 seconds. He set a new record of lifting for 3 minutes 20 seconds.

He also set a new record by lifting a 70 kg weight with his toe.
