Gilgit: A historic suspension bridge connecting Danyore town of Gilgit with Karakoram International University (KIU) caught fire on Sunday night. A joint effort by Rescue 1122, fire brigade personnel, and local volunteers successfully extinguished the flames. The reasons behind the fire are yet to be ascertained.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire erupted at the middle of the bridge from the underside at around 10 pm, making it difficult for rescue teams to access the area. The flames destroyed around 30 feet of the bridge.

To prevent further damage, rescuers detached the unburnt wood and extinguished the flames.
An investigation into the incident has been launched, as officials said the reason behind the fire is currently unknown.
The suspension bridge is a vital connectivity link between Danyore town and KIU, and its destruction is likely to cause inconvenience to commuters and students.
