Labourer colonies, revamp of social security hospitals planned across Punjab – HUM News


LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has sought a plan for building labour colonies across the province. In a recent review meeting, the chief minister approved multiple projects for the welfare of labourers in the province including housing and healthcare.

CM Nawaz also ordered to ensure the implementation of minimum wage across Punjab. She said that the minimum wage of PKR37,000 should be guaranteed across the province.

Revamp of social security hospitals across Punjab is also among the approved projects. Maryam Nawaz Sharif Wellness Centers will be established for pre-screening in Lahore and Rawalpindi, as well as the federal capital Islamabad.

According to a statement by the Punjab government, patients will be referred to a larger hospital after screening at Maryam Nawaz Wellness Centers.

In-principle, approval has been granted for a 200-bed Rehmatul-ul-Alameen Cardiology Center on Defense Road in Lahore. A new 50-bed Social Security Hospital in Rahim Yar Khan has also been granted approval in principle.

CM Maryam Nawaz has issued directives for amendments in the existing labour law for the welfare of workers.

She has also sought a comprehensive plan from Provincial Minister for Labour Faisal Ayub Khokhar for the welfare of labourers in the review meeting.

“Hardworking people are friends of Allah, I cannot anger the friends of Allah,” Maryam Nawaz said. She said that the provincial government is determined to make Punjab an exemplary province regarding the welfare of labourers.

“The wages, medical treatment, better employment and shelter of labourers are the responsibility of the government,” CM Nawaz said, adding, “No labourer should sleep hungry, no one should suffer or be troubled.”

Punjab government is providing better opportunities for higher education for the children of labourers as well, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said.
