It said the Health Endowment Fund, launched by the GB government in 2020, played a crucial role in providing life-saving medical assistance to underprivileged patients. Over the past four years, more than 1,300 patients have received free treatment for critical conditions, including liver and kidney transplants, bone marrow transplants, cancer, and cardiac diseases. The G-B Health Department said Rs 840 million have been spent under this initiative to date since its inception.

According to the statement, during the ongoing fiscal year 2024-25, approximately 325 patients have benefited from free treatment, with Rs 250 million disbursed to hospitals. “However, due to an overwhelming number of patients and the rising costs of medical procedures, the fund is currently facing a deficit of Rs 250 million. As a result, new admissions to the program have been temporarily suspended,” reads the statement.

The Health Department assured that ongoing treatments for around 450 patients remain unaffected. Despite financial constraints, these patients will continue to receive medical assistance until their treatment is completed.

The Health Department urged the public to rely on official statements for accurate information and to refrain from believing unverified reports. It assured that timely updates would be provided as the situation evolves.
