GILGIT: At least two people were killed and five others, including a woman, were injured in a violent clash between two groups in the remote Bathrait valley of Ghizer district on Thursday over a dispute between two clerks for leading prayers at a local mosque.
According to a report shared by Deputy Commissioner Habibur Rehman, two families belonging to the Gujar tribe, hailing from Hamaran locality of Bathrait Nullah in Ghizer district, resorted to a physical clash over a land dispute.

However, Gilgit police in statement said the clash occurred over leading prayers in a mosque during Asar prayers.
The clash led to firing, and as a result, two individuals—one from each group—died, while five others, including one woman, got injured.
The deceased were identified as Shakir Khan, son of Mir Wali Khan, 70; and Sadi, son of Bul Jan, 45, residents of Hamaran.

While the injured were identified as Nasiba, wife of Bul Jan; Salam, son of Bul Jan; Bul Jan, son of Katti; Abi Hayat, son of Shakir; and Hayat, son of Shakir.

Nasiba and Salam are reportedly serious and were shortly shifted to RHQ Gahkuch after given first-aid treatment at 30 Bed Hospital Gupis.
The DC said police personnel, under the command of a magistrate and an ASI, reached the mosque where the fight over leading prayers erupted. The injured were shifted to 30-bed Hospital Gupis via ambulances of the same hospital and Rescue 1122, Gupis.

Emergency has been declared in 30-bed Hospital Gupis and RHQ Hospital Gupis.
“The situation is normal and under control. Elders of the area have been engaged to normalize the situation between the parties,” the deputy commissioner added.
