LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to regulate online cab services to ensure public safety and convenience.
A bill titled “Provincial Motor Vehicle Amendment Act 2024” has been submitted to the Punjab Assembly. Under this law, all ride-hailing services operating in the province must register with the Punjab Transport Authority.
The bill introduces a new procedure for issuing licenses and permits to both vehicles and drivers. Vehicle owners will be required to provide a registration certificate, fitness certificate, and a valid driving license for registration.

A one-year permission card will be issued, which must be renewed annually. Ride-hailing companies must also submit complete details of their drivers and vehicles to the Punjab Transport Authority.
Strict action will be taken against drivers who violate regulations. A Rs2,000 fine will be imposed for violations, and repeated offenses, may result in permanent cancellation of the driver’s license.
Additionally, online cab service operators will be required to establish a customer complaint system, as per the new law.
