The re-release of Sanam Teri Kasam has given the film a surprising new life, and director Vinay Sapru has expressed deep gratitude to Bollywood superstar Salman Khan for his support during its initial release in 2016.
In an interview with DNA, Vinay reflected on the film’s struggles: “We put our heart and soul into the film, and we were quite confident that we had made a good film. But the studio didn’t care to promote it… People didn’t even know when the film was releasing.” He recalled how lead actors Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane spent days at the studio, waiting in vain for promotional efforts to materialize.
With little buzz around the film, Vinay approached Salman Khan, who was taken aback by the lack of promotion. “He was stunned and asked, ‘Your film has no buzz and you’re releasing it? Why didn’t you come to Bigg Boss for promotions?’” Vinay shared. Upon hearing the struggles, Salman immediately asked, “How can I help, Vinay ji?” He then tweeted the trailer, giving it a much-needed boost.
Despite flopping in 2016, the romantic drama has now become a re-release success, earning ₹18.50 crore—more than double its original box office collection.
