Newly renovated National Stadium Karachi inaugurated with spectacular fireworks

KARACHI: The newly renovated National Stadium Karachi was inaugurated on Tuesday marked by a dazzling fireworks display.

Modern dressing rooms have been built for players and officials, and 350 LED lights have been installed to enhance broadcast quality. Additionally, two digital replay screens have been set up, and over 5,000 seats have been added.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said that the stadium’s main building was completed in less than four months. He noted that significant progress had been made, though some work remains unfinished.

“Karachi Stadium now meets higher standards than Lahore’s. Many on social media claimed the stadium wouldn’t be completed, but today we have succeeded while they have lost,” Naqvi remarked.

He praised the laborers who worked 14-hour shifts daily without taking leave for two months, calling them the true heroes of the project. “Even the view of Karachi Stadium is better than Lahore’s,” he added.

Naqvi also commended PCB’s team for their relentless efforts. “We should believe in our team. Just as you are brave, our cricket team is brave too. Don’t be disheartened by one or two losses—look at what this team has achieved in recent months.”

He emphasized the importance of supporting the national team. “If the team puts in hard work, they deserve appreciation. PCB has full confidence in Captain Rizwan, the team, and the selectors. Winning and losing are part of the game, and we must stand by our team.”

Naqvi expressed optimism for the Champions Trophy, stating, “The national team will triumph. Karachiites, your stadium has been significantly improved. When I visited last year, there were no proper restroom facilities. Now, we have addressed parking issues as well, thanks to the support of Karachi’s mayor and the Sindh government.”

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, in his speech, reiterated his commitment to providing sports facilities in Karachi. He recalled that the Sindh government upgraded the National Stadium in 2018, ensuring all facilities were in place for PSL.

“Karachiites love cricket, and the Sindh government is fully supporting sports. We will leave no stone unturned in restoring sports activities in the city. We expect a strong performance from the team in the Champions Trophy. Winning and losing are part of the game, but the fight must be there,” he said.

During the event, the Champions Trophy jersey was unveiled, with national team players making an entrance in their new kits.

Captain Mohammad Rizwan praised the efforts behind the stadium’s renovation. “The laborers worked tirelessly, and we will match their dedication on the field. We hope for results that reflect their hard work. We will give our best—pray for the national team, stay positive, and keep supporting us. InshaAllah, we will win the Champions Trophy.”

Salman Ali Agha acknowledged the strong turnout for the inauguration, expressing hope that fans would fill the stadium during matches as well.

Naseem Shah lauded the new stadium, saying, “Karachi always supports its team, and I hope fans will show up tomorrow as well.”

Babar Azam highlighted the importance of fan support, saying, “We play for the love of our people. The Pakistani team needs this support. I have one complaint—Karachi fans don’t attend matches. I hope they come to watch this time.”

Shaheen Shah Afridi urged Karachiites to support the team in the Champions Trophy. “This is your team, and we will win with your backing.”

Haris Rauf also appreciated the fans, saying, “We always strive to meet your expectations, and you have always supported us.”
