ISLAMABAD: Residents of Islamabad and Rawalpindi will face a severe water shortage as supply from Khanpur Dam is set to be disrupted for ten days.
According to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) notification, desilting work at Khanpur Dam will take place from February 10 to 19, causing a significant drop in water supply.
Islamabad’s daily supply will be reduced by 550 million gallons per day (MGD), while Rawalpindi will receive 13 MGD less.
In Islamabad, sectors D-12, G-10, G-11, F-10, F-11, and G-9 will experience water shortages. . In Rawalpindi, localities such as Pirwadhai, Khayaban-i-Sir Syed, Dhoke Matkaal, Shamsabad, Iqbal Town, Muslim Town, Sadiqabad, Dhok Hassu, Fauji Colony and some parts of Satellite Town in city areas while the cantonment areas would be worst affected by this decision.
The CDA has advised residents to conserve water in advance and use it wisely during this period.
“Water supply through bowsers will also be ensured but all these measures cannot meet the requirements of all the consumers. Therefore, consumers are requested to avoid wasting water during the shutdown period. The supply will be restored after the completion of dredging/desilting work on February 19”, according to CDA officials.
