Serena Interchange set to open tomorrow, PM likely to inaugurate – HUM News

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif is likely to inaugurate the Serena Interchange Project, which is all set to be opened tomorrow (Tuesday).

Ahead of the opening, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the site on Monday to inspect arrangements. He directed officials to enhance the surroundings with horticulture and install decorative lighting. He also urged the speedy completion of connecting roads.

According to Dawn News, the inauguration will likely be led by the prime minister, though his participation depends on availability. A source confirmed that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) had no delays on its part and had even prepared the inauguration plaque for February 4.

Additionally, the federal government plans to name one of the newly constructed underpasses of Serena Interchange after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Sources said the Prime Minister’s Office had instructed the CDA to make the official naming arrangements, the publication said.

The Rs4.2 billion project, which includes three underpasses, one on Khayaban-i-Suhrawardi and two on Srinagar Highway, is now nearly complete, with horticulture and electrical work finalized.

As per the original PC-I plan, the project was to be completed in four months. However, the prime minister had set a 60-day deadline for its completion, which ended on January 5. Despite exceeding this target by a month, the project is now ready for opening.

CDA officials believe the completion of this multi-billion-rupee project will significantly ease traffic congestion at this busy junction.
