KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has dismissed two of its employees over cellphone smuggling charges.
According to a PIA spokesperson, the two employees involved in smuggling cell phones were terminated after a thorough investigation conducted under rules and regulations. The charges against them were proven.
PIA will not tolerate any violation of its own or national laws, the spokesperson said.
Earlier customs officials recovered 78 high-value mobile phones, including 54 iPhones, worth millions of rupees from the crew of a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight operating from Dubai to Multan.

The confiscated iPhone 16 Pro models were found in the possession of five crew members: Acting on prior intelligence, customs authorities intercepted the crew and initially discovered 24 iPhones with the two air hostesses.
Further investigation led to the recovery of 54 more phones from the male crew members, who were summoned back from their hotel.
Statements from the crew involved in the smuggling attempt have been recorded.
