Priyanka Chopra recently opened up about her bond with filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and the emotional support he extended during a challenging time in her life.
Speaking at the Red Sea International Film Festival, the actress shared how Bhansali’s words comforted her after her father’s passing in 2013, shortly before she began shooting Mary Kom.
“I was supposed to start Mary Kom the month my dad died,” Priyanka revealed. “The sets [for the boxing scenes] were up. And my dad passed. I remember Sanjay Leela Bhansali had come to the funeral. He gave me a hug and said, ‘You don’t need to come to work. I understand, it’s totally fine. We’ll shut the sets down. We’ll do it when you’re ready.’”
Despite the grief, Priyanka returned to work just four days later. “The one thing my father would’ve never wanted me to do was not go to work. So I went back to work… I put all my grief into those fight scenes,” she said.
Priyanka and Bhansali’s collaborations include her titular role in Mary Kom (produced by Bhansali) and films like Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram-Leela and Bajirao Mastani.
Looking ahead, Priyanka stars in The Bluff, Heads of State, and Citadel Season 2, while Bhansali is filming Love & War with Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal.
