The outages left millions of people unable to access their social media accounts, with several users expressing frustration and anger.

The scale and impact of the outages is still being gauged. However, several users have already reported issues ranging from inability to send or receive messages, to complete unavailability   of the platforms.

According to downdetector.com, a website that monitors and reports on outages in real time, users across the globe are experiencing disruptions in services across WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram.

The disruptions across Meta services is causing inconvenience for businesses and people that rely on these services for professional cooperation and personal communication.

While the exact cause of the outage is still under  investigation, Meta acknowledged in a post on X (Twitter) that  the company is “aware that a technical issue is impacting some users’ ability to access our apps”.

It reassured its users across the globe that they were “working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible”.

The tech giant also apologised for “any incontinence”.

One of the primary challenges faced by tech giants such as Meta is the sheer scale and complexity of the infrastructure that supports their platforms.

With billions of users worldwide, the underlying systems mustbe capable of handling an immense volume of data and traffic.

Any technical glitches, software issues, or hardware failures within their intricately woven network can lead to successive failures that impacts the overall availability of their services.

The reliance on cloud-based infrastructure and third-party service providers also be a source of vulnerability. If there are issues with the cloud services or the interconnections between various components of the system, it can result in widespread service interruptions.
