Pakistani-American singer Arooj Aftab has once again made waves in the music world, securing two Grammy nominations for the upcoming 2025 ceremony.
Her song Raat Ki Rani has earned a nomination in the Best Global Music Performance category, while her album Night Reign is up for Best Alternative Jazz Album. This follows Aftab’s historic win in 2022, when she became the first Pakistani woman to take home a Grammy, winning the inaugural Best Global Music Performance award with her song Mohabbat.
“I’m beyond honored to be recognized again,” Aftab, 37, said, reflecting on her journey since moving to New York 15 years ago. She has steadily gained global acclaim for her unique blend of Sufi traditions, folk, jazz, and minimalism.
Meanwhile, Beyoncé is leading the pack with 11 nominations, bringing her career total to 99, the most in Grammy history. Her album Cowboy Carter is nominated for both Album of the Year and Country Album of the Year, marking her debut in the country and Americana categories. Should she win Album of the Year, she would become the first Black woman to win the award in the 21st century.
Post Malone, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, and Taylor Swift are also among the top nominees, each earning multiple nods for their work this year, with Lamar achieving a career milestone by earning two nominations in the Best Rap Performance category.
