Lollywood star Mahira Khan was recently honored with an achievement award by the UK Parliament for her outstanding contributions to cinema as a cultural ambassador.
The award ceremony, hosted by MP Afzal Khan at the House of Commons, was attended by several prominent figures, including Dr Sarah Naeem, wife of the High Commissioner, and members of the Labour Asians Society.
Afzal Khan praised Mahira for her remarkable talent and intellect, calling her an icon for women. “She has prioritized and performed in beautiful, real-life stories that resonate with audiences worldwide,” he said, emphasizing her deserving status as an exceptional cultural icon.
Dr Sarah Naeem also commended Mahira for her impact on women’s empowerment. “Her influence has encouraged women not only in Pakistan but around the world to pursue their dreams with courage and conviction,” she stated. Dr Naeem further acknowledged Mahira as the first Pakistani actress to receive such an honor in the UK Parliament, calling it a symbol of global appreciation for her advocacy of social causes and breaking societal norms.
Mahira, in her acceptance speech, expressed gratitude for the recognition, saying, “My parents, my brother, my son, my colleagues, my childhood friends, and my family have stood by me throughout.” She credited her upbringing and support system for her success, adding, “I have stood on the shoulders of teachers, directors, fans, and mentors who made everything possible.”
