Google glitch shows US dollar fell by Rs125 against Pakistani rupee on Friday – HUM News

ISLAMABAD: A glitch in Google’s currency converter showed the Pakistani rupee (PKR) at Rs152.62 instead of the actual rate of Rs277 per US dollar (USD).

The glitch kept showing the USD below Rs160 for nearly 30 minutes and confused netizens who were checking USD to PKR rates on the first trading day of November.

However, after some time, Google corrected the real-time rate, bringing it back to the actual rate of Rs277 per US dollar. The reason behind this glitch is still unknown. Interestingly, this is not the first time Google currency converter has displayed an incorrect USD to PKR rate.

A similar glitch was seen on July 28th 2022 which showed the US dollar at Rs207, instead of the actual rate of Rs240. However, the latest error showed much bigger discrepancy with the rate being Rs125 lower than the real value shared by Pakistan’s central bank.

For some time, the glitch might have surprised many, leaving people wondering how this could happen and why the US dollar had suddenly dropped so low. Those who noticed the glitch raised questions and took to social media to express their confusion about what was happening.

Curiously, as of now, if one types “USD to PKR rate” into Google, the graph that shows currency conversion rates (also known as Google’s currency converter) still displays that the US dollar dropped to Rs152 on Friday at 5:30 PM for 30 minutes.

Surprisingly, Google has yet to fix the graph, which could cause confusion in the future for those who rely on it for exchange rates. They might mistakenly believe the PKR appreciated by Rs125 against the US dollar on 1st November.

The State Bank of Pakistan also issued its official exchange rates, which clearly showed that the PKR closed at Rs277.50 against the US dollar, marking a slight gain of 0.05 per cent.
