On the first anniversary of Matthew Perry’s death, his mother, Suzanne Morrison, opened up about her ongoing grief in an interview with Today.
She expressed that although she feels there was a sense of inevitability regarding her son’s struggles with addiction, his death still weighs heavily on her. “Even now, something funny or something ridiculous happens on the news, I go to call him. I have more freedom of a relationship with him now than I ever did. And it hits me so hard that he’s not there,” she shared.
Suzanne also highlighted the progress Matthew Perry made in recent years but acknowledged the pain of losing him. “I do (miss him with every breath I take). But the one thing I have to learn that’s very hard to do… is that you’ve got to stop blaming yourself because it tears you up,” she said.
Jennifer Aniston, who starred alongside Matthew in Friends, paid tribute on Instagram with heartfelt photos, captioning it “1 year.”
Matthew Perry was found dead on October 28, 2023, at the age of 54 due to a drug overdose. Investigations into the circumstances of his death have led to arrests, including his assistant and a known drug supplier, with trials set for March 2025.
