RAWALPINDI: In response to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) call for district-level protest after Friday prayers, several key roads in Rawalpindi have been blocked, leading to traffic disruptions.
Road blockages have started in Rawalpindi due to the PTI protest and barriers have been placed on major roads, including Peshawar Road near Charing Cross and Nala Road near Military Hospital (MH), where traffic has been restricted to a single lane.
These measures have been taken as part of precautionary steps, and one lane remains open for the movement of vehicles.
At Rawalpindi’s entry points, zig-zag checkpoints have been established, and police personnel have been deployed to monitor the situation.
Metro bus service in twin cities to remain suspended today
Access to Murree Road, particularly routes leading to Mareer Chowk and Liaquat Bagh, has been closed off, while single-lane traffic is being allowed on Sawan Bridge. However, all other roads in the city are reported to be open as usual.
The main entry point from Rawalpindi to Islamabad at Faizabad is also being blocked with containers.
In the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, the Metro Bus service remains suspended for the fifth consecutive day.
The service was initially halted from October 14 to 16 due to security concerns surrounding the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Conference.
Although the service was expected to resume on October 17, it remains closed, adding to the inconvenience for daily commuters.
