At GITEX Global 2024 in Dubai, the Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA) Chairman, Sajjad Mustafa Syed, highlighted Pakistan’s impressive impact as the Tech Destination of the Year, with the grand launch of the Pakistan Pavilion and the highly-anticipated Pakistan Night. These events, co-hosted by P@SHA and the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), showcased the country’s thriving IT sector.
The Pakistan Pavilion inauguration ceremony saw participation from Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, Pakistan’s ambassador to the UAE, as well as top officials from the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), Senior Vice Chairman of P@SHA Muhammad Umair Nizam, Vice Chairman Raheel Iqbal, and CEOs of leading Pakistani tech firms.
Sajjad Mustafa Syed emphasized that recognition as the Tech Destination of the Year on such a global platform could be transformative, setting the stage for potential growth in IT and IT-enabled services (ITeS) exports from Pakistan. Consistent policies in trade, taxation, and the IT industry are essential to capitalizing on this opportunity, he noted.
Muhammad Umair Nizam shared that Pakistan Night provided an exclusive networking opportunity for industry leaders, government officials, and tech innovators, fostering discussions on business partnerships, investments, and joint ventures.
Haris Naseer, P@SHA’s Treasurer, spoke on the organization’s role in economic growth and workforce development, while Dr. Sohail Munir discussed the IT sector’s contributions to UAE’s digital transformation. Additionally, Raheel Iqbal noted that the participation of 80 Pakistani companies, representing IT, ITeS, and various hi-tech sub-sectors, underscores Pakistan’s potential to create a dynamic tech ecosystem.
The event also featured speakers like Ali Zaib Khan, Trade & Investment Counselor at the Pakistan Embassy UAE, and Zeeshan Rehman Khattak, Acting CEO of PSEB, who highlighted Pakistan’s achievements in the IT industry. Nadeem Malik, P@SHA’s Secretary General, remarked that GITEX Global 2024 generated substantial business contracts, MoUs, and B2B connections for Pakistan.
The event concluded with closing remarks by Ambassador Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, who emphasized the importance of Pakistan-UAE cooperation in emerging technologies and the development of strong business-to-business and government-to-government partnerships.
