KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that the establishment of a Constitutional Court was part of Benazir Bhutto’s Charter of Democracy, and he will not back down from the promise.
Speaking at the “Benazir Hari Card” issuance ceremony in Karachi, Bilawal said that the promises made in the Charter of Democracy would not be compromised.
“We will not forget the promises made by our leader Benazir Bhutto. We will save Pakistan by fulfilling the commitments of Shaheed Benazir,” he said.
He said that, alongside the current courts, the people need a special court that protects constitutional rights. “We want judges from all four provinces to come together and address constitutional matters. If not now, when will the Constitutional Court be established? To those who tell me to step back, I say, you should step back,” Bilawal said.
He criticized the Pakistani courts that in the past allowed dictators to manipulate the constitution, reaffirming his stance on the need for a Constitutional Court.

He also highlighted that through the Charter of Democracy, Benazir Bhutto had provided solutions to the flaws in the judicial system. “Shaheed Benazir Bhutto promised to implement this agreement, and we are committed to fulfilling that promise,” he said.
Bilawal noted that, under the Charter of Democracy, many reforms were to be introduced, basic and constitutional rights were to be granted to the people, and the country would have been rid of dictatorship.
He asked, “Are you satisfied with the current justice system? If you believe there is no better system in Pakistan than the world, then we won’t change a thing and let it continue as it is. But if you think that the judicial system is broken and it serves injustice instead of justice, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto has already outlined solutions to these issues.”
Bilawal also acknowledged the significant role played by JUI-F in the drafting of the constitution.
