TANDO ALLAH YAR: head of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has indicated that significant progress has been made toward achieving consensus on proposed constitutional amendment through discussions and negotiations.
Speaking to the media in Tando Allah Yar, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that while it is Parliament’s duty to amend the constitution and laws, disagreements often arise during constitutional amendments.
He emphasized that legislation should reflect the country’s conditions and needs, and that all actions should be in the best interest of the nation and its people.
“We had raised objections to the government’s draft because it would have undermined the judiciary and people’s rights,” he said.
“The elements we rejected have now been withdrawn, and we hope our demands will be met.”
Fazlur Rehman also noted that it took nine months to finalize the 18th Constitutional Amendment. “Given that the 18th Amendment took so much time, it is reasonable for us to take sufficient time to thoroughly examine the 26th Amendment,” he said.

He said that the the JUI-F has requested the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf to postpone all protests until after the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting. “There were previous protests with no results, and we hope they will consider our request,” he said.
Meanwhile, an agreement has been reached between the Pakistan People’s Party and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement on the constitutional amendment. Both parties have agreed to move forward with transparency.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also commented on the matter, stating that there was consensus within civil society and political parties on the establishment of a Constitutional Court.
