MANAGUA: Nicaragua became the latest country to cut diplomatic ties with Israel on Friday, citing the genocidal and fascist nature of the Israeli government.
The Nicaraguan government stated that due to Israel’s attack on Palestinian territories, they would be breaking diplomatic relations with the country.
The announcement followed a resolution that was passed by Nicaragua’s congress, which called on President Daniel Ortega’s administration to break ties with Israel.
THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY
A myriad of other nations also cut off diplomatic relations with Israel. Back in November of 2023, Bahrain withdrew their ambassador in an effort to confirm “Bahrain’s historic position in support of the Palestinian cause.”

Turkey also recalled its ambassador in the same month, “in view of the unfolding humanitarian tragedy in Gaza” along with Belize who called for an “immediate ceasefire.” Bolivia also cut ties in the same month due to the crimes against humanity that Israel committed against the Palestinian people.”
Chile and Honduras also withdrew their ambassadors in November, citing “unacceptable” human rights violations and the “serious humanitarian situation” in Gaza respectively. Chad and Jordan did the same with the latter stating that Israel was creating an “unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe”
South Africa withdrew three diplomats from Israel in the same month.
In May of 2024, Brazil and Columbia withdrew their ambassadors with the latter calling the Netanyahu administration “genocidal.”
