MOSCOW/KYIV: Russia claimed on Thursday its forces had attacked multiple military targets, including Ukraine’s air defense system launchers, while Ukraine reported ongoing frontline battles with Russian forces and a strike on an enemy military airfield over the past 24 hours.
The Russian Defense Ministry said in a briefing that its forces struck two launchers of a US-made Patriot air defense system in Ukraine, as well as a control station and radar set that are part of the Patriot system.

In addition, Russian troops repelled Ukrainian attacks in the Kursk region in western Russia, striking armored vehicles, electronic warfare bases, and other enemy targets, while their air defense systems intercepted multiple Ukrainian rockets and drones, according to the ministry.
Meanwhile, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on Thursday that its forces had engaged in dozens of combat actions with Russian troops across various frontline areas in eastern Ukraine over the past 24 hours.
The Ukrainian side also said that an early morning strike targeted a Russian military airfield and hit one of its ammunition depots.
On Thursday, the Ukrainian Parliament passed a law allowing foreigners and stateless individuals to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including in officer positions.

Regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the European Union (EU) still remains divided. At a European Parliament session on Wednesday in Strasbourg, France, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen criticized Hungary for blaming Ukraine for the conflict.
In response, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban accused Western countries of hypocrisy regarding their stance on the conflict. He criticized the EU’s current strategy regarding the conflict and argued that it should re-engage with Russia.
