LAHORE: The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 in Mianwali, banning all political gatherings, protests, sit-ins, and demonstrations.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had announced that the party would hold protests in three major cities of Punjab – Multan, Mianwali, and Faisalabad – on October 2.
The restriction will remain in place until Monday, October 7th, according to an official notification.
PTI’s protest venue moved from Multan to Bahawalpur
In response to recommendations from the district administration, it has also been decided to impose section 144 in Mianwali and deploy two companies of Rangers to maintain law and order.
The Rangers will remain stationed in Mianwali until October 3rd. These measures are aimed at ensuring peace and stability amid concerns over potential unrest in the area.
The imposition of Section 144 is part of the government’s broader strategy to preempt any disruptions during this period.
PTI’s Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram announced the party’s protest on October 2 from Mianwali, adding that the protest will proceed with full intensity.
Addressing a press conference, Akram urged authorities not to create any hindrances. “You are here for protection, not obstruction.”
He expressed the party’s determination to peacefully exercise their constitutional right to protest.
