Shailene Woodley recently revealed her new skills while preparing to portray Janis Joplin in the singer’s upcoming biopic. The actress humorously shared that she discovered she could sing outside the shower during her transformation into the legendary rock star.
During a conversation on the “Live with Kelly and Mark” podcast, Woodley hinted at her intense preparation for the role. She discussed her admiration for Joplin and the rigorous training she’s undergoing to accurately embody the iconic singer. The “Big Little Lies” star is fully embracing the challenge as she steps into Joplin’s shoes.
In conversation with the podcast host, The Divergent actress stated, “It’s been really exciting. It’s been over six years of putting it together. To me, it’s important to do these things with a lot of integrity and a lot of care. Janis is someone I’ve always deeply respected and admired, like the spirit in her, the soul she was on this planet, and kind of the light that she was on this planet.”
She further added, “It’s been a really fun journey getting to know her better through the process of finding all the creative elements.”
During the conversation, Shailene Woodley shared that she discovered she wasn’t as bad a singer as she had initially thought while preparing for the role. She will also star alongside musician Linda Perry, who plays a pivotal role in the project.
Woodley praised Perry for supporting her throughout the transformation process, particularly with singing lessons. As a musician and music producer, Perry helped guide Woodley as she prepared to take on the iconic role of Janis Joplin.
Elaborating about her experience working with Perry, Woodley claimed, “I’m not like a trained singer, but I feel and I can sing in my shower. It turns out I can also sing outside of the shower, which I didn’t know until I started working on the Janis project and working with Linda Perry, who’s an amazing music producer and musician herself.”
