The 13-member committee of The Film Federation of India, led by Assamese director Jahnu Barua, selected the Aamir Khan-backed film *Laapataa Ladies* as India’s official entry for the 97th Academy Awards. In a special event held in Chennai, the committee chose the film to compete in the Best Foreign Film Category.
The selection list included notable films such as Ranbir Kapoor’s “Animal”, the Malayalam National Award-winning “Aattam”, and Cannes Film Festival winner “All We Imagine As Light”. Tamil film “Maharaja”, Telugu titles “Kalki 2898 AD” and “Hanu-Man”, along with Randeep Hooda’s “Swatantraya Veer Savarkar” and Yami Gautam’s “Article 370”, were also in contention for India’s official entry to the Oscars.
