During an interview with Tabish Hashmi, former Pakistani cricketer Wahab Riaz recounted an anecdote about fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar and Bollywood diva Katrina Kaif. The discussion revolved around Akhtar’s tendency of bragging a lot.
Wahab burst out laughing when the host asked him jokingly, “Have you ever heard of a deep friendship between Shoaib and that (specific) female star?” without revealing the identity of the star.
In response, Wahab told the entire tale, stating: “Once, after returning from a tour in New Zealand I, Shoaib and a few other notable players were getting together for dinner in a room when the well-known song ‘Sheila Ki Jawani,’ which he mentioned somewhat reluctantly, happened to play at random on the television. Shoaib casually told his teammates that he knew Katrina Kaif and was friends with the Bollywood actress. Many players were taken aback by this discovery, particularly Mohammad Hafeez who was eating at the moment.”
Wahab, despite taking everyone, including the host to laughter fits, added: “None of the players believed Shoaib’s claim, and some even doubted his story.”
After being offended by their strange reactions, Wahab shared that Shoaib Akhtar asked the players to exit the room quickly stating, “You all think I’m lying.”
Wahab also noted that Shoaib had a long-standing connection to Bollywood, having played for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008. Shoaib is often seen as a close friend of Bollywood heavyweights Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, adding some credibility to his claim about knowing Katrina Kaif.
