KARACHI: The demand and price of donkeys in Pakistan have surged due to their increased use in medicine production in China.
Sources reveal that the price of a donkey, particularly used in cosmetic creams, has escalated to as high as PKR 300,000.
According to Express News, this increase in prices has significantly impacted local buyers, with fewer appearing at the donkey market in Karachi’s Lyari, where the soaring prices have deterred potential customers.
Sellers attribute the price hike to rising demand from China, where donkey hides are used in the production of various cosmetic items and traditional medicines, including a popular remedy called ‘Ejiao’.
This growing market in China is driving up the cost of donkeys across Pakistan.
