PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced the termination of the second shift in 176 schools across 14 districts of the province, according to an official notification.
The decision impacts schools in various districts, including Peshawar, Mardan, Upper Dir, Swat, Charsadda, Shangla, Haripur, Kohat, Battagram, Malakand, Lower Dir, Nowshera, Abbottabad, and Mansehra.
The official directive instructed district education officers to halt the payment of salaries to teachers who were engaged in the second shift. The move primarily affects 43 schools in Peshawar, 42 in Mardan, 25 in Upper Dir, and 17 in Swat.
Other affected districts include Charsadda, where 14 schools will no longer operate the second shift, followed by Shangla with 8 schools, Haripur with 7, Kohat with 5, and Battagram with 3 schools.
In addition, the notification states that the second shift has also been abolished in 4 schools in Malakand, 3 in Lower Dir, 2 each in Nowshera and Abbottabad, and one school in Mansehra.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Minister of Education, Faisal Tarakai, cited the decision as a response to a departmental report indicating low student enrollment in the affected schools.
He assured that students from these schools will be accommodated in nearby educational institutions to ensure the continuity of their education.
